Catherine Bolzinger is the original and current choir director of the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and choir direction professor at the Music Conservatory of Strasbourg. She specializes in works of the 20th and 21st century, giving world premiere performances of compositions by Georges Aperghis, Philippe Schoeller, Ivan Solano, and Patricia Alessandrini. Ms. Bolzinger is well versed in Classical repertoire, having directed the Strasbourg Philharmonic choir for conductors such as Armin Jordan, Heinz Holliger, Kirill Karabits, Julia Jones, Pascal Rophé. In 2010, she is invited in Canada to direct the choir of the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Kent Nagano.
Catherine Bolzinger is also the artistic director of Voix de Stras’, a vocal ensemble created in 1997, featuring up to 20 singers, focusing on music by contemporary composers. It gives the public the opportunity to discover or rediscover a wide repertoire of modern and contemporary works such as world premiere performances of compositions from François-Bernard Mâche, Christophe Bertrand, Suzanne Giraud, Andrea Manzoli, Ramon Lazkano Loïc Mallié, Luca Antignani.
“Voix de Strass” , the first recording, is a tribute to the discovery of tomorrow’s world sound.
Voix de Stras’ has been invited in France – Festival Musica, Festival des Abbayes, Festival Strasbourg Méditerranée, Festival Fevis, Nits d’Eus… and also abroad – Stimmen, Journées chorales de Dakar Senegal, Luxembourg, Russia, Austria, Norway.
In 2014, Voix de Stras’ embarked on its first US tour, collaborating with Fonema Consort, a young ensemble from Chicago, and Catherine Bolzinger was invited for a week long master class by Syracuse University NY. The group was then jury selected to showcase at Classical: Next 2014 in Vienna, Austria.
